Watch the 60 Minutes video with brain researcher Marcel Just from Carnegie Mellon University. "How Technology May Soon Read Your Mind" or

See the Websites page for resources recommended by Rosanne Parry, the author that we Skyped with during our meeting.

Some of Rosanne's ideas:
  • Organize parent-child book clubs
  • Have a multiple copy shelf in the library so friends can pick out a book to read together
  • Reading buddies
  • Battle of the Books - quizbowl format, read a collection of books in different genres picked by the librarian and then compete
  • SSR book club
  • Newberry Club - librarian picks books that are eligible to win a "newberry" award, voted on by the students
  • Family Literacy Night
  • develop a partnership witha local, independent bookstore
  • Develop a cannon of books at each grade level for "intentional read aloud time." Every year update the list with a more contemporary selection
  • Poster idea for a book fair night: What is the best first line of a book you've ever read
  • Read alike lists (If you liked Harry Potter, then try this...)
